Star Wars Posters

New character posters were released yesterday for the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens. The best one is of Han Solo (Harrison Ford).

Looks like he has the same blaster from the original trilogy. Or something similar.
I was 11 years old when the first movie was released in 1977. That Christmas I had the toy Han Solo gun.
Captain's Chair !

Ok, I wanted one of these when I was a kid!  Who am I kidding, I still want one!!!

Sadly, I don't have the time to build one. Nor the money. More importantly I don't have the patience.

But, we can live vicariously through Adam Savage's build of the chair.

I love the hidden compartment for the accessories and the secret buttons/sounds.

My First Memories

I have loved science fiction as long as I can remember. My mother says she watched Star Trek while pregnant with me. Star Trek first aired September 8, 1966 and I was born two months later. Making me and Star Trek the exact same age! I was always proud of that.

Those early days of TV for me were all in black and white. And not just because some of the shows were in b&w. No, some were in color. But I could only see them in b&w because our TV was a black and white tv with rabbit ears. For you children of the computer age, that means I could only view all shows in black and white.

My mother's best friend lived next door and her husband would invite me over to watch Star Trek and Lost in Space on his new color TV.  Oh, how amazing were those bright shiny colors. To see the uniforms in all their glorious color and all the lights on the ships in color, was simply amazing to my 5 year old mind! So much so that I wanted my parents to buy a color tv just so I could watch the shows in color in my own house. But those TV's were expensive.

My parents eventually did get a large console color TV, a big beast of furniture that sat on the floor in the living room. And I did get to see all my favorite shows in color.

My favorites were:
  • Star Trek
  • Lost in Space
  • Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
  • Space: 1999
  • Land of the Lost (on Saturday mornings)
This blog will be a personal journal of my childhood memories of my favorite TV shows and how they influenced the things I loved for the rest of my life.
